Explanation for I think, therefore I am :

Descartes wants be able to establish indubitable grounds for knowledge since he realised that some of his beliefs could be founded on bad principles. He thought the only way to establish this undoubtable grounding is to begin by doubting everything and assuming that nothing he believes/perceives and so on is true. He reckons that if he can start by doubting any and all presuppositions then what he'd be able to prove must be indubitable. He does this by imagining an all powerful demon deceiving him about everything. He imagines this demon feeding him every perception he receives so that all his perceptions of the world are false. He goes on to see what he can prove in this space of doubt.
