Institute for Public Education BC is committed to public education for the good of all children, families and communities—public education is a public interest
Good synopsis of what happened in @sd61schools leading up to, and after, @lisabeare decided to fire the elected board. This is as bad as I've been saying all long. Why is no one taking accountability @Dave_Eby? #bcpoli#bced https://t.co/bwTT6qlrih
Lessons are being learned... just not the right ones.
Our latest blog post looks at the firing and reinstatement of the Greater Victoria School Board from the perspective of the disturbing lessons being learned.

Accountability needed.
"No one raises the question of why the ministry and one interest group — the police — set out to undermine and destroy a school board elected by the citizens of Greater Victoria.
"The messages also make Beare look ridiculous."

Thank you to the @gvta for posting the documents that were finally produced by @lisabeare's ministry regarding the school board firing scandal. Read and rage. https://t.co/6rFegRb0hH
Thank you to Paul Willcocks and @TheTyee for this thorough article sharing the behind the details on the firing and eventual reinstatement of the GVSB. To date, the response from government has been woefully inadequate. #bcpoli#bced#PublicEdPublicGood

I've suspected something like this was going on between senior BC education ministry staff and police officials. Heads should roll. This really stinks. These trustees should be compensated, along with their immediate reinstatement. @Dave_Eby https://t.co/ld6p8Dkgk0
We're pleased that the GVSB is being reinstated. But we're also disappointed to learn more about what was going on behind the scenes and the Ministry's failure to release all relevant documents, including concerning texts. #bced#bcpoli#PublicEdPublicGood

We're looking forward to being at the @BCCPAC conference this Friday. If you're there, please stop by our outreach table. Time spent talking about public education is always time very well spent.

If a child needs to "earn their way into inclusion", it's not inclusion. The real problem is the dire lack of supports, the chronic underfunding, and the cruel expectation that children with disabilities and diverse needs should prove they belong. #bced#bcpoli#inclusion
Smith today...
"If a child needs to be removed from a school environment... because they need to learn to self regulate, let's do that too. You can earn your way into inclusion, but you can earn your way out of it too..."

Thanks very much to @a_longhurst and the @ccpa for this powerful analysis. We completely agree- the funding of private schools, including elite private schools, with public tax dollars is completely indefensible. #bced#bcpoli#cdned#PublicEdPublicGood

A policy commitment to inclusion becomes an empty promise when the necessary conditions, supports and funding are not there. Please read the newly released National Exclusion Tracker report. @BCEdAccess#bced#bcpoli#cdned#PublicEdPublicGood@FSIBC

Do school trustee elections still matter? You bet they do! And 2026 is a local government election year. Our public schools need accessible, responsive, steadfast and outspoken advocates on boards throughout BC. #bced#bcpoli#PublicEdPublicGood

Good to see the student loan forgiveness plan retained. But, it's one small part of the picture. There needs to be a concerted plan at the school board, provincial and national levels to address the dire shortage of teachers.
