I’ve been ranting for years about how TVTropes and fandom wikis and youtube essayists did permanent damage to how people analyze stuff and discuss it online, only to find out that not only is there already a specific term for that phenomenon, but it predates all of those sites

@Angry_Sociology My fave was when Microsoft went down, so nobody’s Outlook worked, so they didn’t know I had an appointment. They were visibly somewhere else and asked why I wanted to work there. I said I wanted to keep my editorial skills sharp. They said “I don’t know” would have been fine.
@TMHaltom Counterexample also not in academic sources: women in the movement said, if we’re about gender and sexual equality, why are we coming after men—again?
