When Mount St. Helens exploded on 18 May 1980, Truman, his lodge, and his 16 cats were buried beneath an estimated 150 feet of volcanic debris, and none of their remains were ever recovered.

The most well-read generation in history is also the most confused about basic things that illiterate peasants understood without trying. my great grandmother couldnt name a philosopher but she knew what a man was and what a woman was and what children needed and when to stay and when to leave and she was right about all of it. she didnt have a theory of relationships she had relationships. marriage is like that. meaning is like that. my grandfather never once asked if he was fulfilled he was too busy fulfilling things and then he died and he was at peace and his children were at his bed. some things you can only know by doing and the doing has to be clumsy and unprincipled and you have to look stupid for years and we are too proud to look stupid which is why we stay stupid forever
