the drive thru barista complimented my eyes today lads so I am once again in awe of and humbled by the subtle magic of compliments and how they make a normal silly little day just a tiny bit brighter

@poisonjr I have a theory the smell is just cat dust. Other people have said their cats smell like cotton candy, marshmallows, or sunbeams, which are just dusty. Sunbeams = heat = dust rises = smells dusty. Foods made with powders = dusty. Nape of cat neck = can’t clean = that shit DUSTY
Netsuke of a Mother Bat with Two Young, 19th century. Medium: Wood. Collection: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
As I’ve mentioned in previous netsuke examples I’ve shared, the origin of these pieces wasn't about aesthetics--it was born entirely out of physical necessity. Let me repeat my standard explanation:
Traditional Japanese kimonos didn’t have pockets. Men used small boxes called inro to carry personal items like medicine, seals, or tobacco. They hung these boxes from the obi sash around their waists using a silk cord. To keep the cord from slipping through the fabric, they attached these weighted toggles, known as netsuke, to the top end. Since the netsuke was constantly touching the silk garment, carvers designed the figures with completely smooth, rounded contours so they wouldn’t snag or tear the fabric.
These objects were very popular--especially among the wealthy. At the time, merchants were restricted from wearing silk or flashy jewelry by various sumptuary (luxury consumption) laws. The merchant class, unable to openly show off their wealth, turned to netsuke to get around these restrictions. Far from government oversight, this miniature medium became a hidden status symbol that merchants paid artisans huge sums to create. No one could say they were dressing extravagantly, but they were carrying expensive sculptures at their waists, crafted by the most talented artists of the era.
Unlike in Western culture, where the bat is associated with fear or disease, in the Far East it symbolizes good luck.

NEW | Israel’s “New Gaza Order”: Fortress Borders, Proxy Rule, and Engineered Despair
The Israeli +972 magazine reports that while Washington celebrates a “new peace,” Israel is quietly entrenching a permanent system of control and fragmentation in Gaza, marked by fortified borders, proxy militias, and a deliberate policy of despair.
Under the so-called “Yellow Line,” Gaza has been divided into two zones: West Gaza, where over two million Palestinians remain trapped under siege and bombardment; and East Gaza, now an emptied wasteland patrolled by the Israeli occupation army and allied armed groups.
Despite U.S. claims of stability, Israeli occupation forces continue daily strikes, killing hundreds since the ceasefire began, while building concrete barriers that suggest the division is here to stay.
Meanwhile, reports indicate Israel is planning a “New Rafah”, a fenced “safe zone” near Egypt, promoted as reconstruction but functioning as a controlled enclave for displaced Palestinians. Critics say this mirrors Israel’s broader goal: pushing Gaza’s population southward and eventually out of the Strip entirely.
In essence, what Israel and the Trump administration hail as peace is, in fact, a rebranded occupation, a system of engineered despair and demographic control, designed not to rebuild Gaza but to empty it.
Obviously the central villain here is rightwing media embedded into the state apparatus driven by a personality cult and grievance politics but the compete and total uselessness of supposedly neutral and liberal institutions to stand up to these fucking bullies is a close second.
Neighbor thinks she’s being gangstalked by drones and talked to me about collecting evidence for it since I “sit there staring at [her] house all the time” a motherfucker can’t even look out the window in absentminded ponderance anymore what the hell

Just spoke with my CDC sources. They were in tears.
Budgets cut. RFJK has ordered them not to publicize bird flu symptoms in exposed workers. Not to test them. Not to speak.
They know people are getting sick. And they’re being forced to stay silent.
Public health is dying.
BREAKING: Senator @ChrisVanHollen just met with El Salvador's Vice President Félix Ulloa, and get this...
The VP told Van Hollen that the reason they are holding Kilmar Abrego Garcia at CECOT is because the Trump administration is paying them to do so.
They also provided no evidence that Abrego Garcia is part of MS-13 or committed any crimes, just like the US government has not been able to do.
Trump is literally colluding with El Salvador to violate a Supreme Court order, and Republicans are silent!
