This reminds me of Puerto Rican soldiers (many drafted) who have to go fight in US wars then return home to discrimination and more colonialism by the very country they were serving. All empires use colonial peoples as troops to maintain their power…..and then somehow try to convince the colonial soldiers that they are “serving their nation”…whether it be the U.S. or France.
