Next Wednesday sees the launch of Double Down Newswatch, a new weekly magazine programme that will showcase the best of independent media.
Here I explain why it's needed.

The BBC’s Middle East correspondent frames the Israeli elections as Netanyahu against “leftist” and “centrist” figures like Eisenkot, whom she describes as “softly spoken” and “lowkey”.
What she leaves out is that he’s a former general and the architect of the Dahiyeh Doctrine, which calls for disproportionate force and deliberate targeting of civilians and their infrastructure.
In what world is that left wing?
Watch this.
Lubna Speitan, author of the Greens4Palestine motion “Zionism is racism”, spells out the central obscenity of our age – the grotesque inversion whereby the victims of ethnic cleansing, Apartheid and genocide must constantly fend off accusations from their tormentors that it is they who are the racists.
“We as Palestinians are being silenced and gaslit and vilified [as we] witness the annihilation, the cold-blooded murder of our families, of our people… our children burnt with phosphorus, having to endure amputations with no anaesthetic, having their limbs torn and shredded, their bodies burnt by phosphorus, being starved to death … And to have to sit here … and try to bury my feelings so I can eloquently and diplomatically shield my anger, my rage, my anguish that every Palestinian is feeling, is an insult.” /1
Benjamin Netanyahu and his crew are fighting the most racist election in Israeli history. His opponent Gadi Eizenkot will normalise an illegal occupation, while his military record is chilling. I write for Zeteo:

On October 25, 2026, Israel continued its daily slaughter. Here are the people it killed over those 24 hours:
1) Taghreed Mohammed Karajeh, a woman, west of Khan Younis. Shot dead Saturday evening by Israeli soldiers inside the al-Zahraa School, where displaced families are sheltering.
2) Ibrahim Amin Hassan Abu Gharabeh, 33, central Gaza. Gaza’s Health Ministry says his body was handed back two weeks after Israeli forces seized him and he died in their custody. Other outlets say he was shot east of al-Masdar.
3) Fatima al-Bayouk, 8, east of Deir al-Balah. Shot by Israeli soldiers on al-Mazraa Street and died of her wounds. She was the only member of her family to survive the Israeli strike that destroyed their home at the end of 2023.
4) Hamdan Salman Abu Amra, 33, east of Deir al-Balah. Displaced from his home. Killed Sunday morning by an Israeli drone strike on the al-Mazraa area.
5) Fawzi Salem al-Sawarka, 54, Gaza City. Killed Sunday when an Israeli drone fired on a group of people on the coastal road next to Hamad Hospital. Three others were wounded, including a child.
6) Nabil Ahmed Abu Zayed, 25, Khan Younis. Killed Sunday with his brother in an Israeli strike in the industrial area northwest of the city. Five others were wounded, two critically.
7) Alaa Ahmed Abu Zayed, Khan Younis. Nabil’s brother. Killed in the same strike.
8) Sami Baroud, Gaza City. An employee of the Islamic University of Gaza. Killed Sunday when an Israeli drone struck the campus for the second time in an hour. The first strike had wounded more than five students.
9) Ashraf Dahlan, Gaza City. Islamic University employee. Killed in the same strike.
10) Shadi Abu Ataya, Gaza City. Islamic University employee. Killed in the same strike.
Just another random day of a supposed ceasefire. But every day, Israel kills multiple people.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has killed:

Israeli drones are dropping incendiary materials on makeshift tents near Shujaiya in eastern Gaza City in an attempt to force displaced Palestinians to flee the area
Displaced people report that at least 350 tents have been burned
The authentic voice of Israeli "liberalism."
Linda Dayan lists the memories that will haunt her on election day. It would seem that after 3 yrs of genocide the 21,000 plus slaughtered children of Gaza have yet to intrude on her consciousness.

The Butcher of Beirut – Israel’s alternative to Netanyahu.
Peter Oborne – just returned from almost a month in the Occupied Territories – came into the Double Down Newswatch studio to talk about the Israeli election, Britain’s feeble surrender to the Israelis over the consulate in East Jerusalem and the ongoing horror in the West Bank and Israeli prisons.

“This is a decade in the making; a decade of watching and learning; a decade where the left has realised that the loudest voices shouting about antisemitism care about it the least, because they've treated it recklessly and promiscuously, for grotesque short-term political advantage and to defend the slaughter of innocents.”
Absolutely scorching stuff from Paul below.
Read it all.
The Bell report on antisemitism in schools "is politically biased, drawing inappropriate conclusions from flawed data. It will stifle debate and foster mistrust."
Important statement from Jewish Voice for Liberation.
