I almost never tweet, per se. But I often reply to the tweets of others. See “tweets and replies” for a sense of who I am and what I think about stuff.
@MrAndyNgo The “it’s not a good faith argument” excuse is trotted out, like clockwork, when said argument is unassailably strong, and they know they have no plausible way to refute it. Solution? Claim that the impeccably rational argument is merely a “smokescreen” for some nefarious motive.
@Docstockk@unherd …critical feminists. Faced with an ideology that draws no meaningful distinction between the modes of behaviour and presentation popularly associated with masculinity, and literally being a man, you either succumb to it or reject it utterly.
@Docstockk@unherd Lesbians bore the brunt of this insane ideology earlier, and to a greater degree, than any other demographic. Butch lesbians now come exclusively in one of three categories: transmen, future transmen who haven’t quite got around to transitioning yet, and hardcore gender…
@heterodorx@EuropeanPATH@LeorSapir It may be true that, strictly speaking, we don’t have “evidence” that exorcism works. However, we are confident that eventually science will catch up, and there is no reason to change what we’re doing while we wait.
@heterodorx@LeorSapir@EuropeanPATH Waiting for “science to catch up” is a weird way to describe having got way out in front of the science. It suggest some sort of clairvoyance about the course scientific knowledge will take in the future.
@ConceptualJames He did overthrow the money changers’ tables in the temple. With people in open-toed sandals all around, that could have ended very badly for someone.
@atalanta44 @CBHeresy@SwipeWright No, it’s entirely culturally determined. By sexist stereotypes. There IS no other possible referent, and you can perform as many mental gymnastics as you like, you’re not going to get away from that fundamental fact.
@rantyskeptic@Veillantif @atalanta44 @Ticcer@SwipeWright How about start by thinking about where this leaves, for example, butch lesbians, which this framing would appear to categorise as men.
@SwipeWright This unambiguously categorises butch lesbians as men, and “effeminate” gay men as women. I mean, that implication has always been fairly clear to anyone not in denial, but this lays it out in especially shameless form.
@Anthrofuentes The crickets that have been chirping since I asked this question are chirping even louder since the SciAm fiasco. I’m not sure whether they are hermaphroditic crickets or not.
@Fredo_2023 @TheOmniLiberal “Openly bisexual man (who only began identifying as bisexual in the last few years) is bisexual”
Um… ok. Still doesn’t sound like much of a news item.
@OhL00kasquirrel @artowarrior @reduxx The other perfect analogy is body integrity identity disorder, which is where a healthy person “identifies” as a person with some sort of disability, and will go so far as blinding themselves or getting a limb amputated to make their body match their “identity”. It’s so…
