The hardest thing is that 4 characters really isn’t enough in one year for Fighting Game DLC. People were going to be mad no matter what was revealed. Everyone has their favorite, and wanting to see them in SF6 is a completely justified ask. I know I have characters I’d love to see in SF6 that’ll probably never get added.
But here’s the thing: a lot of the characters we love right now were… not so popular before. Contrary to what people claim, R.Mika was universally lambasted as just silly or stupid-looking when Alpha 3 came out (didn’t help that she was kinda bad). I don’t remember people fawning over the addition of Makoto in 3S as some super awesome character design. I remember people being super skeptical on Decapre because she felt like a recycled Cammy.
I feel like Juri was one of the only characters that seemed universally loved as soon as she was announced.
But now, people want Mika and Makoto and others so much. And right now we have people who love Marisa. And Kimberly. And Jamie. And Manon. And I know I’m not alone when I say I love A.K.I. despite not thinking anything of her when she was announced. And I think Yasmine, Arjun, and Bosch all can clearly garner similar fanbases. And I think that’s cool.
The problem is having *only* new characters and one guest character. Which means *no one* got their wish of a favorite they wanted to see. I’m GLAD they are adding new characters, but I also totally get people being sad to not see any familiar faces. But I do think we should be open to seeing how these new characters turn out. You can be disappointed but still hope that the new fighters turns out sick.
I’d love it if Capcom pulls a fast one on us and says, “Ha! Here’s 2 more characters for Season 4!” and reveals two returning faces. But that’s not going to happen. I do wish that whatever seems to be holding the SF6 team back from pouring content out to us changes, but I wouldn’t get mad at the team. I’m sure they wish they could do more as well.
