Exposing the hidden hand behind the protest against the Great Nicobar Project.
You won’t find these EXCLUSIVE details anywhere.
So let’s start the THREAD.
1. Meet Ashish Kothari. He filed a petition before the NGT against this project.
But why? And who is he?

#WhatsUnfolding
Putin flew in, India welcomed him like an old friend, maintained its polite “we’re totally neutral” smile for Western audiences, and quietly linked Russia into its long-haul plans for fuel, farming supplies, transport corridors, and defence gear.
And simultaneously… New Delhi is still trying to charm the US and EU into signing big-ticket trade agreements.
So yes — India is basically running three diplomatic relationships, hoping none of them notices the others’ perfume.
(minus official statements, plus reality):
India is nowhere close to distancing itself from Russia. If anything, the partnership is getting upgraded — just packaged neatly so it doesn’t look like India is poking holes in Western restrictions.
Putin’s quick touchdown was enough to secure Russia’s role as India’s future shopkeeper for oil, crop nutrients, important minerals, atomic reactors, and even sea lanes far up in the icy north.
(Nothing says “long-term friendship” like shared access to frozen waters.)
The two sides are creating new financial plumbing, using rupees, rubles, and possibly digital currency bridges — basically a way to continue business without asking the West for permission slips.
Fuel and fertilizers are India’s pressure points. Without them, agriculture turns grumpy, factories lose patience, and the economy starts questioning its own enthusiasm. Hence: Russia stays.
Mega-corridors like INSTC and the Chennai–Vladivostok sea route are India’s backup plan for a future where global chokepoints (Suez, Malacca, etc.) become unreliable or politically awkward.
Defence ties are shifting from simple purchasing to “let’s build the stuff here,” though Moscow will still keep a firm grip on sensitive technology and export approvals.
The trade gap is… slightly embarrassing. Russia keeps collecting rupees it can’t spend, so India needs to sell more unless it wants Moscow sitting on a currency mountain it has no use for.
Meanwhile, India is speed-walking toward trade pacts with the EU and Eurasian bloc while trying to maintain a respectable friendship with Washington — all groups that barely tolerate each other.
In practice, India is playing three high-stakes games at once:
- Russian energy and industrial inputs — the “reliable but complicated” companion
-American markets and innovation — the “wealthy, influential partner who likes rules”
- European trade deals — the “elegant one with endless paperwork”. Europe has increased anti dumping duties on a lot of Chinese products, which are also manufactured in India at competitive rates, that give disproportionate advantage to Indian manufacturers.
So far, India’s balancing act works — mostly because all three sides want something from it.
But if Washington or Brussels suddenly decide someone needs a scolding, India could find itself caught between exasperated superpowers holding crossed arms.
