François-Philippe Champagne: I remind our colleagues down south that we buy more from the U.S. than China, Japan, and the U.K. combined. We're their biggest customer.
I met with my colleagues from Europe. The German minister, the Turkish minister, the Irish minister. Listen, everyone wants to meet with Canada these days because they understand that the most sought-after commodity today is trust.

This is why the Dow has been making new highs before the Nasdaq or even the S&P: big foreign money goes into the Dow. They do not buy small caps and IPOs. When you see the Dow leading, that is international capital moving to America.

While German 10-year yields have climbed to the highest since 2011, French 10-year borrowing costs are now at the highest since 2008, causing the spread between the two yields to widen to the most in almost two years. Traders are increasingly intolerant of high fiscal deficits.

🚨 DID JAPAN INTERVENE AGAIN?
The Yen surged as much as +1.2% to 158.22 per Dollar on Wednesday, putting traders on high alert for signs that Japanese authorities may have stepped in to support the currency.
The move was sharp enough to trigger speculation about a possible intervention or rate check, although strategists noted that its size was well below moves seen during past intervention episodes.
The stronger catalyst may have been BOJ Board Member Hajime Takata, who said a rate hike larger than the usual 25 basis points and back-to-back hikes are both still possible.
Japan has already spent a record $96.4 billion over the past month to support the Yen after it fell to a four-decade low, making traders especially sensitive to any signs of further official action.
By comparison, the first coordinated Japan-US Yen-buying intervention since 1998 on July 31 sparked a ~5% rally from near 164 per Dollar.
The reaction shows how sensitive the market has become to even small signals from Japanese authorities.
