Stop referring to it as a 15% pay increase when it is nothing more than an insufficient step up from a 30% pay decrease. It’s like punching someone in the face less frequently than you have been, but nevertheless still punching them in the face.
Criminal barristers don’t charge by the hour. Obviously you were not legally aided. This industrial action is about legal aid rates. It will be very rare indeed for a baby barrister to be be privately funded
I know there's lots of focus on crown court work. But it's worth highlighting the standard magistrate court fees, which have remained unchanged for years:
1st appearance (plea hearing) - £50
Sentence hearing - £50
Case management - £50
Half day trial - £75
Full day trial - £150

Only realised when I got to my destination to start a 4-day trial that there would be a strike. The trial has been adjourned until tomorrow, so now a quick dash across the country to collect the car.
