another reason why lando is such an inspiration to upcoming generations is because he proves that you don't need to grow up with parents who are hard on you since you were a child,
that you can have a mother and father who support you no matter what, who are extremely open and expressive of their love, who hold you tight at the end of the day regardless of whether you had a good race or bad race,
that you can cry on camera, admit you made a mistake, show weakness,
that you can like things outside of racing, have other passions, enjoy life,
that you can loudly say "i love you" to people around you including fans,
that you can go out of your way to show the people who support you around the world how much they mean to you,
that you can be physically expressive of your love to your friends without being afraid of the stigma surrounding it,
that you can be vulnerable in front of people and say stupid things in the moment but own up to them later because you are so human,
that you can get overly excited and laugh to the point of crying,
that you can also be your own biggest critic,
that you can be loyal to the point where people question you because you believe in your team,
that you can be friends with all your rivals,
that you can falter, and fail, and lose,
that you can have the whole world turn against you and survive it because those who matter always had your back,
that you can be sarcastic and make jokes that go over everyone's head, not caring if people who are looking to take you out of context intentionally misunderstand you,
that you can be messy, real, authentic to yourself, you can be all these things and still be at the very top of your sport,
that you can make all your haters respect you because they cannot deny your skill and hard work,
that you can be all this and be the world champion.
i think there was a perception that to be a top athlete you have to be tough and sacrifice things, that having a shitty childhood is the cost of being at the top of your field, that being ruthless is the only way to win......and then this boy who grew up in somerset came in and shattered all those beliefs.
yes you still have to sacrifice a lot as you do in any professional sport, and yes lando was extremely privileged to be born where he was and to have the access that he had,
but he has still always been so vulnerable and open when he didn't have to,
and talks about mental health which is so so needed,
and is just so so human that if i had a kid who was interested in racing, i would want them to look up to and learn from lando norris for inspiration.
