Mapping GMC Ward 46
Our team was out at GMC Ward 46, running a detailed Road Inventory Survey under the Community-Based Neighbourhood Accessibility Plan (CBNAP) in collaboration with Directorate of Town and Country Planning, Govt. of Assam.
This is Guwahati on a clear day. 💙🌿
Clean air & blue skies should not be occasional. As our cities grow, we need to rethink how we move—with better public transport, safer walking & cycling, cleaner vehicles and people-centred streets.
Let’s move better, for healthier cities.
We are pleased to welcome Krittika Bhuiya to the Purvca Foundation team as an Associate.
With her experience, skills and enthusiasm, we look forward to her contributing to our work towards building climate-resilient and sustainable urban habitats in North East India.
On #WorldPedestrianDay, we held our first Visioning Walk in GMC Ward 46, bringing together residents, business owners, office-goers, women, elderly and young people to share their vision for the neighbourhood.
🙏 Thank you to everyone who joined and shared their ideas.
The Supreme Court has recognised the right to walk as a Fundamental Right.
At Purvca Foundation, we believe that footpaths are not just transport infrastructure—they are essential public spaces that support safety, accessibility, public health and social inclusion.
How safe, accessible, comfortable, and reliable is bus travel for women in Guwahati?
Our #WomenOnBoard study captures the experiences of women bus users and highlights key challenges and opportunities for creating a more inclusive public transport system.
🚲 Happy World Bicycle Day! 🚲
Today, we celebrate the bicycle—a simple yet powerful tool that promotes health, saves money, reduces pollution, and helps create more livable cities.
Together, let's work towards safer, more inclusive, and cycle-friendly streets for all.
Public transport plays a crucial role in shaping women’s mobility in Guwahati.
Through the “Women on Board” study, we explore how women experience the city’s bus-based public transport system & the challenges that continue to shape their daily journeys.
More insights coming up.
A more walkable & accessible Guwahati begins at the neighbourhood level.
Purvca Foundation, in partnership with the Directorate of Town and Country Planning, Govt. of Assam, has started work on the Community-Based Neighbourhood Accessibility Plan (CBNAP) in Ward 46 of #Guwahati
Conducted our “Let’s Get Involved” workshop at USTM on 4th May 2026, engaging students on sustainable urban mobility, climate action & citizen participation. Great discussions & thoughtful solutions from the participants.
Grateful to Dr. Swarup Baishya, team & all students.
We’ve signed a collaboration with the Directorate of Town and Country Planning, Govt of Assam, to develop a Community Based Neighbourhood Accessibility Plan at a ward in Guwahati (CBNAP).
Neighbourhood-level planning for better access, safer streets & sustainable mobility.
Participants of #WalkforaChange share their firsthand experiences of walking through one of Guwahati’s busiest streets and observing how urban design shapes everyday mobility.
These voices highlight why better streets matter.
Today we join millions of journeys around the world to celebrate #WorldPublicTransportDay on 17 April. This global moment recognises the vital role buses, trains, and metros play in connecting people to opportunities, communities, and everyday life.

What does good (or bad) street design actually feel like?
On 12th April, we explored this through the first #WalkForAChange at Ganeshguri, Guwahati. A 2 km walk showed how footpaths, traffic, vendors & design shape everyday mobility. More walks soon. #UrbanMobility
A simple journey of a mother and daughter through the city becomes a powerful lens to understand three important ideas—transportation, mobility, and accessibility. This post also raises a larger question—are our cities being designed for vehicles, or for people?
