Carbapenem’s are rarely first choice for empiric antibiotic rx!
1. They’re really sick, doesn’t count!
2. Necrotizing pancreatitis, Nah(yes, even if it’s infected)
3. I’m scared of cefepime neurotoxicity? No!
4. Risk factors for ESBL or MDR? Yes
5. Being immunocompromised. Nope

@Cortes_Penfield @PaulSaxMD This is what we’re piloting. It will have 2 APP’s and an Attending. In our pilot program we’ve kept the General ID service mostly around 20. It also helps build better communication with orthopedics and Neurosurgery
