Allow me to drop my two cents on why SB19 rightfully earned all six of their Filipino Music Awards wins.
Let’s start with the obvious:
Two of those awards were fan-voted. Self-explanatory — it’s the people’s choice. If your faves didn’t win, maybe their fans just didn’t show up.
🏆 People’s Choice: Artist of the Year
🏆 People’s Choice: Song of the Year — “Dungka”
Now, for the rest: FMA clarified that all other awards were judged by the official FMA jury, while the Grand Awards combined jury deliberation with metric success — balancing artistic merit and data-driven results.
⸻
🎵 Pop Song of the Year – “Dungka”
FMA defines this award as recognizing standout songwriting, melodies, and widespread appeal.
Standout Songwriting:
“Dungka” — short for Doon Ka — is classic SB19: fearless, unapologetic, and layered with meaning. It’s a bold “if you don’t vibe with us, doon ka” statement that rejects crab mentality, hate, and baseless criticism.
Fun fact: “Dungka” was actually a diss track Pablo wrote after someone insulted Josh. Call it what it is — poetry in motion.
Melodies:
Catchy? Check. Anthemic? Double check. It fuses pop and hip-hop with SB19’s signature theatrical flair. Even non-fans can’t deny—it’s an earworm through and through.
Widespread Appeal:
“Dungka” took over TikTok, school performances, and even random play dances in Korea. If you missed that, that’s on you.
⸻
🏆🏆 Grand Awards: Concert & Tour of the Year
SB19 kicked off their Simula at Wakas World Tour at the Philippine Arena—a full-blown spectacle that felt more like theater than a concert. The storytelling, the setlist flow, the visuals—it’s a journey through their trilogy (Pagsibol, Pagtatag, Simula at Wakas).
Their live vocals? Untouchable. Their stamina? Ridiculous. By the third hype song, the audience is breathless while they’re still giving 200%. Hence, Concert of the Year (maybe even of the decade).
They took that same magic around the world—scaled down in production, sure, but never in quality. Smaller venues, same energy, same emotional impact. Metrics-wise? Sold-out stops. And they’re still not done.
⸻
👑 Artist of the Year
Each member is an artist in his own right.
•Pablo: songwriting mastermind; wrote/co-wrote most of their discography.
•Josh: solo awardee, sold out his own NFT concert.
•Felip (Ken): award-winning solo act, headlined his own show in Japan.
•Stell: vocal powerhouse with industry legends offering to write songs for him.
•Justin: visionary director now exploring acting.
Five creatives, one powerhouse group. That’s not hype—it’s history in the making.
SB19 has long proven their success isn’t confined to the Philippines. Their Simula at Wakas World Tour spans continents—Asia, the Middle East, North America, and beyond—with sold-out shows and fans flying in from other countries to see them live.
On the numbers side, they’ve charted on Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales and Hot Trending Songs, and landed on Spotify’s Viral 50 in several countries. Their tracks rake in millions of streams across Apple Music, YouTube, and TikTok, with engagement rivaling major-label acts.
And while they’re signed under Sony Music Philippines for distribution, they also run their own company, 1Z Entertainment, managing their creative direction and tour productions. They’re not just artists—they’re architects of their own success.
Then there’s the brand power. SB19 doesn’t just endorse—they influence. Merch drops, campaigns, events—A’TIN consistently show up, proving loyalty converts to REAL numbers.
So when the FMA jury weighed artistry, performance, and metrics, the choice was obvious. SB19 didn’t just meet the standard—they became it.
⸻
If you’ve made it this far—congrats. You’re at least trying to understand instead of hating blindly. Do a little research before you downplay real artistry.
And if you still can’t accept it after all that?
Then honestly… Dungka.
Behind our success are all the people who supported us along the way.
Thanks to all of you, we won a total of six awards from the Filipino Music Awards this year.
