UPDATE: Opposition politician Dr Kizza Besigye has raised concerns over the safety and availability of his legal team after the High Court declined to suspend proceedings in his human rights application. Instead, the court directed both parties to file written submissions in his application seeking to enforce his right to legal representation within strict timelines. However, Besigye has questioned how he would receive a fair hearing when, he said, members of his legal team were being targeted.

VIDEO: Remember the Pioneer Easy Bus buses?
Here’s what remains of several of them; parked with missing parts in Kigo.
The buses are seen stationed up the hill within the immediate neighbourhood of outgoing Parliament Speaker Anita Among’s residence.
The area where the buses are parked is restricted and is understood to have a caretaker on site.
Note: The buses are not part of the ongoing investigation or the search operation currently being conducted at Among’s property by joint security operatives.

"Chairman, a country without reserves is not sovereign. The potential of this Bill to destabilize Uganda’s balance of payments is our primary concern as a central bank. For example, last financial year the overall balance of payment surplus was USD 1.5 billion. That’s how we were able to increase our reserve coverage by USD 1.5 billion. Today as we speak our reserves are close to USD 6 billion. Why? Because these inflows have been coming in. The moment you tamper with these inflows here, we risk running down our reserves, and that is economic disaster for a country.” Governor Atingi-Ego on the Protection of Sovereignty Bill 2026 in an appearance before Parliament today.

Thank you, International Community of Banyakigezi (ICOB) for hosting this intense intergenerational dialogue between Kigezi’s youth and elders.
We are reminded that we carry a unique energy to stir this country in the right direction. We are playing this role despite a political environment heavily marred by violence and suppression of political dissent.
We demanded the release of our fellow Banyakigezi rtd. Col. Kizza Besigye (@kizzabesigye1) and @SamMugumya. We called upon our elders to work with us towards pushing for the freedom of our freedom fighters.
We continue to play our role towards peaceful, fair and free elections in Uganda. We demand the State and our leaders to do the same.
