BREAKING! Myanmar Navy Attacks Boat Carrying Rohingya.

On June 9, 2024, at 10 pm, a boat carrying 35 adult Rohingya and some children fleeing to Bangladesh from Maung Ni village in Rakhine State’s Maungdaw Township was attacked.

Approximately 5 minutes after departure, the boat was stopped by three Myanmar Border Guard Police officers, who extorted BDT 6,000 from them. About 2 miles from that location, the Myanmar Navy rammed the boat, causing it to sink.

Only a woman and two men survived and fortunately were able to return to Maungdaw. Most of the adults on the boat sustained injuries at various places, and most of them are from Buthidaung Township. They were fleeing to Bangladesh to seek medical attention.

According to survivors, more than 40 Rohingya are dead in the river, with bodies floating on the water.

Than Lwin Times media reports that the Myanmar Navy arrested 78 Rohingya – 44 men & 34 women – on March 19th in Ye Township, Mon State. The victims were fleeing from refugee camps in Bangladesh to Malaysia. The boat was seized, and the arrestees are still on Kalegauk Island.
