The atmosphere is now carrying more water vapour than ever recorded. This summer, it reached a record 27.35 kg per square metre.
For every 1°C of warming, the atmosphere can hold around 7% more moisture. Record heat and record-warm oceans are loading it with even more fuel.
That extra moisture produces torrential rain, flash floods and destructive storms.
A hotter atmosphere means more extreme weather.
