The first time I met Luke Mette was the summer before his freshman year. I was cleaning out the shed at the field and invited some players to come up and hit while I took inventory. I had the pitching machine running, and Luke was the only incoming freshman who showed up.

While I was in the shed, I kept hearing loud barrels. I finally stuck my head out to see which upperclassman was launching balls all over the field. It was Luke. A young freshman, brand new to BBCOR bats, hitting absolute bombs. The sound was different. You could tell right away there was something special there.

What stands out even more than the talent is the person and the family. Luke has always been respectful, hardworking, and team-first. If you drove by the field, chances are you’d see Mom, Dad, and his brother out there shagging balls and supporting him. Just a great baseball family.

Someone is going to get a special player and an even better family. Can’t wait to see where his next chapter takes him.
