Now after 35 years the world is beginning to recognize what the people of Somaliland have always known, Somaliland is a true democracy and a viable state. Study its history its journey is a lesson in nation building and
self determination. #18May2026
Somaliland is so safe that the money is displayed openly and transported in wheelbarrows in the foreign exchange market in the capital city, without the fear of robbers.
“Since re-establishing our republic and restoring functional governance, we have moved away from the path of begging. We now say to the world: let us cooperate.”
President Mohamed Haji Ibrahim Egal (1993–2002), Somaliland
The time for truth has come. The whole world today understands, and it is not acceptable for a stable country with an established system of governance to remain under another country that is collapsed and a burden to the world.
" This 1991 @CNN report from Hargeisa, Somaliland, captures the full scale of destruction wrought by aerial bombardment and artillery shelling from Somalia’s Siyad Barre regime — damage that levelled the city entirely. Yet Somaliland’s people refused to surrender."
This is the #IsaaqGenocide history that Somalia’s Ambassador denied today and mocked.
MOSSADIL EXPLAINS: ISRAEL RECENTLY RECOGNIZED SOMALILAND, BUT WHAT IS IT?
First, quick clarification: Somaliland is not Somalia.
Somaliland has operated as a separate, self-governing entity since 1991, after Somalia’s central government collapsed. It has a different colonial history, different institutions, and a very different security situation.
What Somaliland is:
• Former British protectorate
• Has its own government, parliament, and elections
• Maintains local security forces and border control
• Has remained relatively stable for decades
Religion:
Somaliland is overwhelmingly Sunni Muslim, and Islam is the official religion.
Public life is conservative, but it is not run by jihadist groups, militias, or clerics.
No ISIS governance. No Al-Shabaab control.
Geography:
Somaliland sits directly across the water from Yemen, along the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
This area is a major global shipping route and a known corridor for arms smuggling and militant activity coming out of Yemen.
Why Israel recognized it:
Israel recognized Somaliland as an independent state, citing its long-standing self-rule, internal stability, and strategic location near key maritime routes.

Historic moment.
@Deji21_04@Somaalilanders@Presidencysl_@netanyahu We are not adopting another religion; I was only speaking about the recognition my country has gained. And obtaining recognition is not leaving one’s religion — it is a right that my country has, and no one can intimidate us about that.
“Today, the long-held hope, expectation, and extensive effort to achieve an officially recognized nation among the countries of the world has succeeded. Today is a great and historic day for the people of Somaliland.
The people of Somaliland respectfully express their gratitude.
I announced today the official recognition of the Republic of Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state.
Together with Foreign Minister Sa'ar and the President of the Republic of Somaliland, we signed a joint and mutual declaration.
This declaration is in the spirit of the Abraham Accords, signed at the initiative of President Trump.
I congratulated the President of Somaliland, Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdallah, and praised his leadership and commitment to promoting stability and peace. I invited the President to pay an official visit to Israel.
The President thanked me for this historic declaration and expressed appreciation for my achievements in fighting terrorism and advancing regional peace.
I thank Foreign Minister Sa’ar, the Head of Mossad David Barnea and the Mossad, for their contribution to today’s development, and I wish the people of Somaliland success, prosperity, and freedom.
The State of Israel plans to immediately expand its relations with the Republic of Somaliland through extensive cooperation in the fields of agriculture, health, technology, and economy.
