“It—is—not—fire—devils, dark, or anything, But boots—boots—boots—boots—movin' up an' down again”
Felt like drawing an ixian soldier. May do something with him.
@saxarbattem@BoscoCode@angeld23_ In other words, it is hyper-specialized to exactly one thing: theorem-proving. Why? To optimize prestige for OAI.
Think of it as lowering grocery prices by replacing healthy foods with mass-produced junk. It technically achieves the outcome, but sacrifices too much.
@saxarbattem@BoscoCode@angeld23_ The papers are completely unreadable, even to mathematicians, and some have been retracted for being wrong.
The topics scooped many mathematicians.
It didn't open up any promising new research areas, it just mined current ones. Like harvesting a crop and not planting new seeds.
@MattLutzPhi If time is infinite, then set a window [-T, T] and, if the limit exists as T -> \infty then we get what we want. I think you will agree that for an unbiased coin, the limit will converge to 0.5. For wacky things we don't care about, maybe the limit won't exist. (n/n)
@MattLutzPhi Maybe this works. Feel free to poke holes. Assume B-theory of time. If time is finite, then the probability an unbiased coin shows heads is:
# times an unbiased coin was flipped and showed heads / # times an unbiased coin was flipped
(2/n)
@notadampaul@BoscoCode@angeld23_ Of course, I agree. I know next-to-nothing about nuclear fission. I know about mathematics, because I am a mathematician.
Maybe you misunderstood me as saying "The OAI dump should have been illegal, and we should make a law against it now! @congress"
I am saying it was bad.
@BoscoCode@angeld23_ Maybe my point will be clearer this way: resources cost something. So they should be used for good things. The OAI dump was not a good thing. So it was a bad idea to burn resources for it.
This is my point. And, it's how I interpreted Rikhab's point.
@notadampaul@BoscoCode@angeld23_ Yes it does. Airplanes are useful to me. And probably to you. Disposable bags are useful to me. And probably to you.
Maybe you think my opinion is that only I can use an airplane? No
What I think is certainly relevant. The point of my post was to express what I think is true.
@notadampaul@BoscoCode@angeld23_ Of course. That's the "usefulness" part of the tradeoff. Why would I think that burning a bunch of resources for something I don't like is good?
Your point is "Heh, you think resources should be allocated to things you think are good. Hypocrite."
??
@notadampaul@BoscoCode@angeld23_ Nope. I also use disposable bags, have an electric dishwasher, and when I need to travel I use airplanes that burn lots of fossil fuels. There's a tradeoff involving amount of damage vs. usefulness. I think you know this.
@BoscoCode@angeld23_ It seems like you don't really have an opinion on whether the OAI math dump is readable or correct. It seems like you have a vague view of mathematicians as being snobs, and therefore are hoping to "stick it to 'em". This seems very childish, and your view is not really true.
@BoscoCode@angeld23_ Data centers run on electricity, which mainly comes from fossil fuels, which, when burned to produce electricity, warm the climate such that unhealthy fires are more common. 1/2
@plumsirawit Your entire post oozes resentment and unresolved emotions. I hope you find some healing from that, and come to understand that no serious mathematician is or was "laughing at the losers", as you put it.
People saying “Try them out in sandbox! Play Street Brawl! Watch a video!”
Shut up.
You queue standard with that shit and you go 0-17 until you understand it. A positive win rate in a MOBA is a sign of malignant cowardice.
