Qhubeka is a charity that moves people forward with bicycles. People earn bicycles through our programmes, improving their access to schools, clinics and jobs.
๐ฒ #WorldBicycleDay is also an occasion for the Tour de France to reaffirm its commitment to cycling mobility in all its forms.
๐ With its program #LAvenirร Vรฉlo since 2018, the Tour de France wants to generate a positive impact by inspiring the largest number of people to cycle in their lives.
In particular, it is unfolded around three pillars: promotion, learning, solidarity.

Today, 175 learners at Mameriri Secondary School in Sekgopo received their bicycles, helping make the journey to school safer, faster, and more reliable. ๐ฒ
With todayโs handover, a total of 541 bicycles have now been distributed in the Sekgopo community through the continued support of @Absa and @ZZ2Farming.
We have seen firsthand that when enough bicycles reach a community, real change begins to happen. More learners arrive at school on time, access to opportunities grows, and everyday distances no longer stand in the way of education and possibility.
A bicycle is more than transport. It creates access, independence, and opportunity.
Thank you to everyone who continues to support this partnership and help change lives, one bicycle at a time.

Since 2019, @AbsaSouthAfrica has changed 6,777 lives through bicycles, and half of those are girls.
For many of them, it was their very first time learning to ride.
Every woman out there at the Absa @CapeEpic pushing her limits on the trails is doing more than riding. She is inspiring a new generation of untamed young women to discover their freedom on two wheels.

So many more kids on bikes thanks to @AbsaSouthAfrica ๐ฒ
Good luck to everyone taking on the @CapeEpic this year. While riders push their limits on the trails, more young people are gaining the freedom and opportunity that a bicycle brings.
This Saturday we are distributing more bicycles to Axios School of Skills at the event.
Thank you, @Absa, for helping change lives through bicycles.

61 learners received bicycles, turning long daily walks into quicker, safer trips to and from school - and yes, riding a bike is also just good fun.
Thank you to @ninetyone_sa and partners @alexforbes, @AVBOBSA, @PPS_SA and @janbraai for making this possible.
Bicycles make a real, practical difference.

This morning, learners walked to Zwartberg High School in Prince Albert. This is a daily journey that many young people face simply to access education.
This afternoon, that journey will change for 57 Grade 12 learners, who will ride home on bicycles of their own.
Today marks our first bicycle distribution of 2026, reinforcing a shared commitment to meaningful access, opportunity and education.
We extend our sincere thanks to @ninetyone_sa and its partners @alexforbes, @AVBOBSA, @PPS_SA and @janbraai for investing in the futures of these learners and helping turn long walks into meaningful progress.
What a wonderful young man! At just 18-years old, George Malcolm is riding over 25,000 kilometres from his home in the UK to New Zealand (his familyโs home), raising money for @Qhubeka ๐๐ฌ๐ง๐ณ๐ฟ๐
One of our UK trustees met George today at the London Bike Studio for a coffee, a quick bike check from their mechanic, and to hand over some Qhubeka merchandise for his journey! ๐
George is documenting his journey on Instagram at โ@big.bike.rideโ and we encourage you to follow his adventure!
He is raising money on @GivenGain - link below - if you wish to make a donation and help George change lives with bicycles! ๐

Happy birthday @dougryd ๐ฅณ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฆ
Doug is one of the handful of the original architects of getting African athletes onto cyclingโs world stage. We have worked with him for nearly 20 years โค๏ธ
In 2008 his MTN Energade team was the 1st African UCI Continental team ever, fielding nine South African riders.
That moment put African cycling on the map and created an acceptance that lives on in the fact that over 140 African men and women raced in World Tour, Pro Conti & Conti level teams in 2025 โค๏ธ๐
In 2009, Doug made another historical decision: to widen the MTN Energade team to more Africans. We helped him sign @AD_Niyonshuti87 ๐ท๐ผ Hichem Chaabane ๐ฉ๐ฟ & Jupiter Nameembo ๐ฟ๐ฒ.
When Adrien started the Tour of Ireland on 21 August, he became the first Black African rider of the modern age in the pro cycling peloton.
In the following decade, Doug brought nearly 50 African riders to the top levels of pro cycling, from South Africa, Eritrea, Algeria, Zambia, Rwanda, Ethiopia and Namibia ๐ฟ๐ฆ๐ช๐ท๐ฉ๐ฟ๐ท๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ช๐น๐ณ๐ฆ
Enjoy your day of celebrations Doug ๐ฅณ

Corporates and individuals who took part in Ride Joburg for Qhubeka contributed 16 bicycles to the Grade 9 learners. A huge thank you to everyone who raced, as well as to @SpoorFisher and Mersen for their continued support.
Bicycles bring joy. They make children smile, laugh, and feel the pure excitement of riding. With every pedal, they are not just moving forward, they are having fun, building confidence, and discovering freedom.
Every bicycle is more than transport. It is happiness on two wheels. ๐ฒ๐

Last Thursday, during #NewBikeDay at Kgolakaleleme Secondary School in Sekgopo, we received a heartwarming surprise from a group of girls from Mohumi Secondary School.
Just over a month ago, these girls learned to ride a bicycle for the first time. With determination and the guidance of a dedicated teacher they rode more than 18km (a round trip of 9km each way) from their school to greet the Qhubeka Charity team members who taught them to ride.
Their visit was more than just a hello. It was a celebration of progress and newfound freedom. With their bicycles they are creating their own adventures and are now exploring their village in an entirely new way.
