目前在西雅图艺术博物馆举办的展览是这位著名中国艺术家40年职业生涯中在美国规模最大的展览。

40多年来，艾未未将个人经历、同理心和全球政治转化为富有远见的艺术形式，既赏心悦目又发人深省，使他成为世界上最具思想深度的概念艺术家之一。

在西雅图艺术博物馆，我问他：“鉴于你所做的一切，你首先认为自己是艺术家、社会批评家，还是政治活动家？”

“我喜欢标签，”他说，“被称为‘艺术家’不会冒犯我。” 目前为止，一切顺利。但他接着说：“我更愿意做批评家、历史思考者或社会活动家。”

事实上，67岁的艾未未集所有这些身份于一身，这在他规模最大的美国展览“艾未未，反叛者：艾未未的艺术与行动主义”中得到了体现。展览涵盖了从1980年代至今的130多件作品，追溯了他从早期放弃的绘画到通过重新想象的日常物品进行社会批评的历程，象征着他对人权、言论自由、中国文化以及自然与人为灾难的看法。
