maybe im overthinking it, but a drive containing fics from almost every fandom raises some questions. fanfiction is already being scraped for ai training without permission, so why should we automatically assume a collection on that scale is just a harmless personal archive?
Blue check accounts getting nearly 10 million views on their tweets about their Google drives and fic writers are the fame hungry wannabe influencer capitalists for wanting a comment or two 😭
the people gaslighting writers for supposedly being overdramatic are now posting "hope we all die" over a google drive getting taken down. you couldn't write irony this fucking embarrassing 😭😭😭
People forget that the public archive also has a big delete button on it. The public archive lets authors control the fate of their own creation which these reposters are denying them
yes. this discrepancy is exactly why it's hard to believe people saying it's not the majority of readers who are being entitled. show me proof then. cos all i see is 10-30k likes for disrespecting writers and usually FAR less than 2k supporting writers' mildest pleas for respect.
@dolphinYejunie that folder was made by someone else using the link, so it tells you absolutely nothing about whether the original collection was personal

btw ao3 has spent years trying to protect its authors and limit mass scraping. making a huge collection of fics publicly accessible through an unauthenticated drive link could undermine those protections by making the work easier to harvest at scale
