While some Chickenbacker products are obvious fakes at a glance, there are also generic versions that make you think, “That’s actually pretty well made.” This post is a look at the latter.

The reason for the odd feel of the Chickenbacker has been identified. Even though it’s a 21-fret model, the neck joint is about 10 mm deeper than the original. That’s why they can’t mount the pickup right at the edge of the body like on the real thing.

This is likely because, from the perspective of machining precision and bonding time, replicating the original structure would result in neck lift or bonding failure. Since the joint is deeper, the bridge position should also have shifted toward the body end.

C6’s recurring problem: the instrument panel going dark. After struggling in vain to fix it, I decided to leave it to the professionals. They said that, in addition to the typical malfunction, various other issues had been cropping up—a testament to their expertise.

The Generic 4005, which has undergone numerous repairs. The original manufacturer has reissued it, cooling the enthusiasm. Fed up, I converted it into a 6-string bass. Still needs some adjustments here and there.

Using [.022 .031 .039 .051 .070 .094], the tension of each of the six strings is balanced at just over 30 pounds, and the total tension is also less than 200 pounds.

Since the stock for the four strings is [.045 .055 .075 .105/160 pounds], this seems to be appropriate.

Based on the swingarm pivot. You can clearly see that the SR’s powertrain is compact. The BSA has a separate gearbox, so its front-to-back dimensions are larger. Consequently, the down tube angle is also completely different. Reproducing this would be quite difficult.

I compared the dimensions of the SR—which is often modified into a Goldie—with the DBD34. As you know, the SR has 18-inch wheels front and rear, while the Goldie has 19-inch wheels.

Based on the rear contact point. Here, the difference in swingarm length is clearly visible. However, since all these points change when the center stand is folded and the bike is in a 1G state, this comparison might not be very meaningful.
