In 2020, 4 people were arrested after posting online what were considered death threats against then President Duterte.

1. Public school teacher Ronnel Mas of Zambales was charged with incitement to sedition after posting he would give P50 million to anyone who could kill Duterte.

2. Joemarc Ebcay of Ozamiz was charged with sedition after he posted a Facebook comment offering P150 million to anyone who could kill Duterte.

3. Ronald Quiboyen, a construction worker, was arrested for allegedly writing on Facebook that he would give P100 million.

4. Maria Catherine Ceron of Cebu was also arrested for allegedly offering P75 million to kill Duterte.

PUBLIC SERVICE IS NOT SELECTIVE

The highest form of public service is not choosing where to show up.
It is respecting and abiding by the Constitution of the Philippines, especially when it is inconvenient.

The Constitution is clear: public officials are accountable to the people at all times.

The Constitution does not explicitly require the Vice President to personally attend House Committee on Justice hearings. However, active engagement with the impeachment process , rather than outright refusal to participate, is generally seen as integral to demonstrating respect for constitutional accountability mechanisms.

You cannot claim to serve the people while refusing the very process designed to ensure transparency, truth, and accountability.

Calling it a “fishing expedition” does not remove the obligation.
Skipping proceedings does not strengthen your defense, it weakens public trust.

If there is nothing to hide, then the proper response is simple: face the process, present the evidence, and let the truth stand.

Public service is not just about programs, ayuda, or presence in communities.
It is also about upholding institutions, respecting due process, and honoring the Constitution, fully, not selectively.

Because in the end,
the Constitution is the people.
