The Swiss Seismological Service (SED) has been collaborating with local seismic agencies to develop national EEW systems across Central America. We conducted a comprehensive public survey across Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and El Salvador.
How would you react if you received an alert about an impending earthquake?
I'm excited to share my first paper as PhD : https://t.co/GVqZwKnLal A significant number of respondents are taking recommendable protective action and these numbers are expected to rise with EEW
Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) aims to provide warning in advance of imminent shaking, allowing recipients to take action and reduce casualties. Central America is no stranger to earthquakes and the seismic risk is mainly associated with building vulnerability.
Whilst we're still working on the ground motion data of the #Turkey#earthquake to understand more. It may be useful to recall the history of record-breaking peak shaking intensities recorded worldwide. This is one study but other similar are available -> https://t.co/KBsYJan3Ls

The #InSight mission on #Mars is running out of power and most of its functions could be shut down soon. However, the attached seismometer, will remain in operation. ETH Professor Domenico Giardini takes stock of three years of #marsquake measurements. https://t.co/ovthh8ClBZ
"Here they burned my mother, my sister, my whole family."

In 1972, one day before Christmas a M6.3 with a intensity scale of IX happened in Managua. This is a picture of the Cathedral if you look closely you can see the structural damage in the walls and the time when the clock stop because of the earthquake. #Nicaragua#earthquake
