I wear a tight fitted N95 for 12 hour shifts around vulnerable people and while it does get uncomfortable after a while, at least I know the people I care for are protected from anything I might have. That seems worth it to me. I'll never get HCWs who don't mask. Why risk it?
The eyes may reveal what #LongCOVID is doing to children.
➡️ Researchers found that children with Post-COVID Syndrome had significantly wider retinal blood vessels months after infection—a sign of persistent microvascular/endothelial dysfunction.
➡️ Using a simple, non-invasive retinal scan, scientists could actually see biological changes linked to LongCOVID. Some vascular abnormalities improved over time, especially as symptoms improved. 1/

Simone Biles needs to know Covid can damage the heart & vascular system!
It happened to me from a Covid infection March 2020 as a fitness instructor who is slim and exercises daily while I was 33 years old and pregnant in my second trimester.
Covid triggered myocarditis which was left undiagnosed and untreated bc doctors assumed I had anxiety/ postpartum depression issues.
It inflamed the tissues of my heart and caused a congenital PFO that never caused a single symptom or issue my entire life to rip larger and become symptomatic.
Silent hypoxia plagued me for 5 years causing silent strokes where I have partial vision & hearing loss with tinnitus, receptive aphasia, stutter, balance issues, personality changes, etc…
and no doctor ever once took my call for help seriously.
After 5 years, the 5th cardiologist finally agreed to do some real tests on me and I had that hole diagnosed and closed this past February.

"Ahora está perfecto, lo único es que el olfato y el gusto todavía lo tiene afectado"
Makoke, pues perfecto, perfecto, no está...
Monday we officially launched our national county-level COVlD heatmap and called on the CDC to do the same.
They have not updated their main wastewater map yet. However, the CDC did update their main ED forecasting map with county-level data. #KeepFighting
In just three weeks, Ebola has spread from 3 health zones to 25 health zones in three DRC provinces plus a neighbouring country (Uganda). Map from Africa CDC:
I actually see (to a degree) why people give up all their precautions. Because constantly asking people to protect you (& often being denied), and living life with next to no in person community is hard as hell. I'm not changing a thing, but damn am I burnt tf out.
When society decides a mass disabling event is “over,” the people still suffering become invisible. Their illness becomes anxiety. Their disability becomes a personal failure. Their abandonment and subsequent isolation becomes their fault because “they chose to hang on to it.”
"The epidemic is advancing rapidly but we must not lose hope."
As the Ebola outbreak continues in DR Congo, a @WHO team joined other partners to visit Mongbwalu, a town in Ituri province, which is the province most affected in this outbreak.
Child can recover from COVID.
Their routine tests can look normal.
Yet more sensitive testing may still detect abnormalities in the lungs, immune system, quality of life, and possibly even the heart.
A new review from Taiwan's DISCOVER cohort helps explain why🧵
It feels like an insurmountable obstacle.
But history suggests otherwise.
People once believed HIV/AIDS could be acquired through casual contact.
Then they learned it wasn’t limited to one group.
Then they learned it wasn’t spread by touch.
Then they learned the importance of blood, sexual fluids, and other transmission routes.
Public understanding changed because the model changed.
With COVID, many people are still operating with the wrong model.
First, they have to understand that it travels through the air and can accumulate indoors.
Then they have to understand that infection isn’t binary—survive or die—but can involve long-term health consequences.
Then they have to understand that those consequences can affect anyone.
Once the model changes, the conclusions become much harder to avoid.
