Here's a timelapse of images over 2.5 hr from May from @keckobservatory of the supermassive black hole Sgr A*. The black hole is always variable, but this was the brightest we've seen in the infrared so far. It was probably even brighter before we started observing that night!
It was wonderful to be back @DunlapInstitute for the 15th Anniversary reunion! It is amazing how much folks at the institute have accomplished in 15 years!
Murder She Wrote is amazing in so many ways! I can't believe I haven't seen most of it. It doesn't appear to be available online so I'm resorting to buying it on DVD. At least it's not VHS!
This week, UCLA Physics and Astronomy Machine Learning Reading Group will be reading: "What Is ChatGPT Doing … and Why Does It Work?" by Stephen Wolfram. It is an excellent overview of many ML concepts so it's helpful even for those unfamiliar with ML https://t.co/M8rWjmf2Tp
This week, we'll be reading "On the Opportunities and Risks of Foundational Models" – Bommasani et al. (2022) - https://t.co/sS0MQhKAxg
Suggestions for future readings?
The UCLA Physics and Astronomy Machine Learning Reading Group will be concentrating on how LLMs like ChatGPT can impact research and education in Physics and Astrophysics. Our goal is to learn and develop some best practices for their use.
A @UCLA-led team, including our very own Keckie Randy Campbell, has discovered a strange cloud accelerating toward the Milky Way's black hole. This dusty gas filament named X7 measures 3,000 AU in length & clocks in speeds of up to 490 miles/second! 👉https://t.co/S9ieHRNO4q
