I attended the Sub-Saharan Africa International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (SAIPEC) 2026 — organized by PETAN — and it was more than just a conference; it was a strategic conversation about the future of energy in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Someone gave me a lift after church today.
On the way, he was like “see how the madam seat fits you. Let’s do something about it now.”
I just laughed.
Then he goes “I’m serious o, I need a girlfriend.”
I said, “okay, look for one.”
He said “that’s why I’m telling you to be my girlfriend na. I always leave very early for work and get home very late. It would be nice if you could come around to cook and clean.”
I quietly opened TikTok and showed him a video. He asked what’s that?
I told him it’s a cleaning agency, and there are lots of chefs online in case he doesn’t know where to find them.
He didn’t know what to say. He just kept laughing.
Nonsense.
The moment brands stepped in, the magic died. What made Faruq and Ojude Oba special was how effortless everything felt.
The year it went viral, nobody was trying to make a moment. People were just outside living, dressing well, enjoying their culture, and somehow, the internet caught it at the perfect time. Now everybody shows up already rehearsing poses for paparazzi and looking for their own viral frame.
Even Faruq’s later appearances sometimes feel like trying to recreate a moment that was naturally perfect the first time. Not everything needs a sequel.
Ojude Oba existed long before social media and will remain important long after the hype dies. It is centuries old cultural heritage, not an internet challenge. Faruq’s picture is already legendary and nothing can change that, but forcing the same excitement every year is starting to feel tired.
Some things are better left as iconic moments in time instead of being stretched until the magic disappears.
So yeah, I will say what everyone else has been saying.. "it's time to wrap it up"
