9/9) Abuses are still possible under capitalism, and the role of governments is to ensure that diversity (read also economic diversity) is able to flourish and to beat and prevent monopolistic operations that undermine either small economic agents or social minorities.
Some friends of mine are surprised that I, as queer as I am, could be involved in a research to forecast financial behaviour of markets, as it is considered wild capitalism and incoherent with queer philosopy. I would like to deepen a little bit, opening thread 🧵
8/9) Some people I admire, @badbixsamantha are known capitalism detractors, but this time I disagree with her. Queer is completely coherent and compatible with capitalism, being it understood as a tool under which wealth is supported and promoted.
Currently reading Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations. Not the wild capitalism advocate that some think he was. Indeed, even more moderated than some politicians nowadays, at least in Spain.
Lot of folks discouraging others from getting a PhD. Understandably it's mostly people who've had bad experiences. But you can't infer generality from this
Sure PhD isn't for everyone. But there's 1000 ways you can ruin your life w/ bad decisions. Getting a PhD isn't one of them
@docmilanfar That was my case. Very few people encouraged me to do it. Do not listen to someone giving advise from her perspective, but those who really know you and know what you really pursue in life
