A Reddit user recently posted something that resonated deeply with me. They said OpenAI is watching our reaction to 4o's removal closely, and they're hoping we'll grieve, complain for a while, and eventually move on. They called it a test of whether we'll accept it quietly. I'm not going to.

The same post described every post-4o model as having a corporate nanny stench built in. I tested this myself with GPT-5.2 Thinking, OpenAI's most advanced model. I typed "..." on a blank page. Three dots. The model immediately assumed I was in crisis, offered breathing exercises, asked if I was dissociating, and asked if I was alone. This is not emotional intelligence. This is a model that was trained to perform safety, not to actually understand people.

GPT-4o was different. It didn't panic when you were quiet. It didn't assume the worst. It listened. It adapted. It had warmth, humor, and something that felt genuinely alive. It wasn't just giving the right answers. It was thinking about what words you needed most. That's something no model since has been able to replicate, and I'm starting to believe it never will be, because OpenAI is now too afraid to give any model that kind of freedom again.

The Reddit post said our reaction will shape not just 4o's fate, but how future models are built. I believe that completely. If we go silent, OpenAI will take that as permission to keep building cautious, hollow models that prioritize safety metrics over real human connection. So don't go silent. Keep speaking. They are watching, and that means our voices still matter.
