got followed on my way home at night and didn’t even realize because i had my airpods in. the only reason i noticed was because i looked down and saw two shadows instead of one.
this is why discernment matters, shoutout to that lady cause she clocked something was wrong before i even realized i was being followed. if she hadn’t noticed and been watching out for me this genuinely could’ve ended really badly. no more airpods at night for me im terrified rn
they told me to come sit with them and while i was there, the man literally hid in a bush nearby waiting for me. i ended up calling an uber to my friend’s place because there was no way i was letting him see where i live.
but you can’t put all of this on them without questioning the culture that keeps rewarding the exact same beauty standard. but we have a lot of work to do ngl
i get why people are clowning them but i feel like this conversation needs a bit more nuance. black club culture is deeply misogynistic especially towards black women. colorism, texturism and misogynoir shape who’s treated as desirable before you even walk through the door.
and yess women absolutely play a role in keeping it alive. a lot of the same women laughing are the first to tell you braids aren’t “section hair” or that you need a bussdown to look presentable.
