I had a wonderful time at the @queensbotanicl Garden’s annual Rose Gala! During the annual event to support the work of QBG, we also honored advisory board member Howard Frelich and the life of Yanny “Mama” Lie, a longtime advocate of QBG and member of the garden’s Tai Chi group.

August is for #ironweed (Vernona noverboracensis). This New York native blooms from July through September with its peak in August. Found in our woodland garden, ironweed is a favorite for QBG butterflies.

Each year, we collect food scraps from sites throughout Queens and process it into nutrient-rich compost which is distributed for free to local communities and throughout our 39 acres of green space.
