Led by Asst Prof Dr. JJ Wright @drjjwright. We research queer + trans joy & issues impacting 2SLGBTQ+ folks w/ an intersectional, anti-o, abolitionist lens
OISE alum @drjjwright discusses the hit show Heated Rivalry and how queer joy can disrupt hockey’s culture of hypermasculinity: https://t.co/GY9ouBvl0e @ConversationCA
Obsessed with #HeatedRivalry? 🏒🔥
Although it’s a fictional hockey romance, the TV series is redefining how we imagine relationships, masculinity and society. Dr. JJ Wright discusses hockey culture and the power of queer joy in the viral Crave show.

While everyone debates how well HudCon did at the Globes, Heated Rivalry reminds us:
The most radical rivalry in hockey is between hypermasculinity and queer joy.
And joy is currently winning.

My research has found AB trans youth are, among other things, wanting to attend school less, living in fear of hatred against them, and--unimaginably--a participants' trans partner even took their life last year due to the political climate. The new laws are unconscionable.
Each year Edify magazine profiles 40 Edmontonians under 40 who are driving our city forward – and several members of our #MacEwanU community are among them. ✨
Congratulations to our inspiring alumni, faculty and staff who are making an impact on campus and beyond.

Honoured to be named one of Edmonton’s Top 40 Under 40 after only a few years here. I'm grateful for the scholars, community partners, colleagues, and students who shape my work. Looking forward to celebrating at @MacEwanU's Board of Governors dinner and the @EdifyEdmonton gala.
The so-called “Fairness & Safety in Sport Act” isn’t protecting girls, it’s scaring them out of play and policing their bodies. Height, weight, and strength differences already exist in youth sports. The only thing this law protects is political theatre. Kids just want to play.
Kids will die because of this. Last month, a young queer AB woman I interviewed said her trans partner took their life last year because of the hateful climate. The UCP’s use of this clause is unconscionable #abpoli
✨New Publication✨Excited to share my paper in the Intn'l Journal of LGBTQ+ Youth Studies!

Pride is a time to celebrate the leadership and joy of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. It is also a call to action. This June, explore LN resources that center 2SLGBTQIA+ experiences, while recognizing the power of storytelling, and queer and trans joy. (1/2)

I'm excited to share this new paper that addresses a critically understudied area of sexual and gender-based violence research. Read the article (open access) here: https://t.co/HpQjoeiJi6 #endgbv#queerjoy
Removing Pride flags from Edmonton libraries is shameful and fascist. These flags indicate that everyone is welcome in public libraries, and to want to remove that signal of belonging is aborrent #ableg https://t.co/kAZ394kCgi
@Virah7288 @drjjwright Youth’s perspectives on their bodies and lives should be listened to. Being trans is not a bad thing. Regret rates for gender-affirming surgeries are less than procedures like knee replacements (not to mention regret rates are lower than those for having children.)
Honoured to have been asked to deliver a keynote speech in Melbourne at the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at @latrobe. The symposium feels like a light in a dark political moment for 2SLGBTQ+ communities. Join us! Register at https://t.co/vMRTFNuAoL #LGBTQ
