@luckyDogLane @farfrizzlefraz @jinxpistol @sangakesque In the scenes in Israel we also learn that he is getting married and chose not to tell his parents showing he doesn't trust her and doesn't have a normal relationship with her, and doesn't have normal relationships at all. He turned out weird, and it's her fault.

The point of this scene is genuinely just to showcase how because she (and Joel) were so wrapped up in their own lives that he ended up becoming a religious zealot, and the show portrays him and his wife as weird for this.

@sangakesque Both of the main characters who are super into Israel are played for laughs throughout the run of the show are Astrid and Ethan both of whom are portrayed as weird and too intense.
