the movies really undersold how devoted Sirius was to Harry. In Goblet of Fire, Sirius was literally hiding in a cave near Hogwarts, surviving on rats and whatever food he could get, simply because he wanted to stay close enough to protect Harry while Voldemort was returning.

this wasn’t some comfortable reunion with his godson. Sirius was a wanted man who could have been captured at any moment, yet he willingly lived like an animal because being near Harry mattered more to him than his own safety or comfort.

and that’s the heartbreaking part. Sirius had spent twelve years in Azkaban believing the person he loved most had been murdered, only to discover Harry was alive. Once he finally had the chance to be part of Harry’s life, he wasn’t going to disappear again.

the films gave us Sirius the fugitive. the books gave us Sirius the godfather who was willing to live in a cave eating rats just to be close enough to make sure Harry was okay. 💔
