The argument that Trump invaded Canada today is more compelling than many realize. The border between Canada and the U.S. runs through the middle of Lake Ontario. By claiming to have the power to rename the entire lake, Trump is claiming the lake. That's invasion by declaration.

Maps Are Weapons. Trump Just Stole a Lake—China’s South China Sea Playbook.

After economic warfare, now comes toponymic warfare: Trump imitates China’s weaponization of map-making.

First the Gulf of Mexico, now Lake Ontario.

And Trump has just complained that he is now missing an ocean...

Some analysts tell us not to dwell on what they call the whims of a mercurial president—one with a thin skin toward anything and anyone that doesn’t bow down to him.

🇨🇦Take Canada, for instance, who dared to walk away from a trade deal it considered not in its national interest, a rather reasonable and legitimate action, some would say.... But for Trump, it’s the ultimate affront! And in a single stroke of a thick, childish Sharpie, he stripped the ungrateful country of a lake and claimed it for America—on paper, only, some say.

But those analysts are wrong.

These stains of ink leave marks that cannot be erased.

🇨🇳China proved it all over the South China Sea.

The Middle Kingdom has spent decades waging an aggressive campaign to rename geographical features in this body of water. As an undisputed superpower, it projects its might and dominance onto maps, extending its grip, tightening its fist, and violating the sovereignty of territories belonging to countries such as the Philippines and Vietnam.

In 2020, Beijing unilaterally named 80 geographical features, including 25 islands, sandbanks, and reefs, as well as 55 underwater mountains and ridges.

In 2024, it added another 64, located in the heart of areas claimed by neighboring countries.

A specific example: Ayungin Reef, which lies within the Philippines’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

China renamed it North Reef (Ren’ai Beijiao) and South Reef (Ren’ai Nanjiao).

In doing so, it aims to leave “administrative traces” that will allow it to establish a legal basis for—falsely—claiming the territory as its own.

China has not stopped at mere names existing only on paper. It has embodied them.

Over time, these geographic sites have been patrolled by its navy. They have been militarized, and tensions in the “gray zones” of the South China Sea are heating up.

For the economic stakes there are enormous.

🇺🇸Trump, the Great Lakes, and his baptism by fire.

Donald Trump—an avowed admirer of dictators and of Xi—won’t just be slapping a cheap, token signature on an executive order. Across the United States, just as in mainland China, all the maps will be redrawn to reflect his decision. Google—as it did with the Gulf of Mexico—will bend the knee.

And the groundwork for a territorial dispute will be laid.

Just like the China Seas, the inland sea formed by the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence River holds value far beyond its weight in gold.

The eight-state and two-province geography (including Ontario and Quebec) operates as a $9.3 trillion economic engine.

If it were an independent country, it would rank as the third-largest economy in the world (source: BMO Capital Markets, 2025).

If there is one thing that resonates in the hearts of Trump’s America in 2026, it is the sound of coins clinking into their treasure chest.

So, no, a name is not just a name.

Being a President is not spending your time renaming libraries, airports, and lakes, while you do nothing for the cost of living, gas, and healthcare.

There's a difference between a President who tries and fails, and a President who doesn't even try.

Trump has demonstrated he's not even trying, he's loitering in the oval office doing random dumb shit.

Pretty huge. Canada now has a current accounts surplus for the first time in 4 years. The current account is how much money a country earns from exports and investments vs what it pays out abroad. Canada is bringing in more foreign currency through trade than it's sending out.

Thanks PM Carney. Rest assured… the vast majority of Americans will never refer to Lake Ontario as “Lake America.” Just like we will never call the Gulf of Mexico the “Gulf of America.” There are still many of us who think of Canadians as our great friends. 🇺🇸🇨🇦

BREAKING: REAL LEADER! Prime Minister Mark Carney hits back HARD at Trump's pathetic "Lake America" renaming — says it will be Lake Ontario "then, now ⁠and ​always."

This is going to drive MAGA off a ledge...

"The name of Lake Ontario derives from the Wendat word 'Ontari’io', which means 'the lake is beautiful, the lake is great," Carney wrote on X in French.

"This name dates back more than 400 years, well before the Canadian Confederation and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America," he continued.

"We know that the United States is changing. Their trade relations, their foreign policy, their national monuments, their hydronyms," Carney added. "Canadian women and men also know that things must be called by their name, and this lake is called Lake Ontario – then, now ⁠and ​always."

As usual, Carney struck the perfect balance between firm confidence and restrained class. He also managed to slide in a great little trolling jab with his use of the word "hydronyms" because there's no way in hell Trump knows what it means. It means the names for bodies of water, so Carney is also referring to Trump's pathetic effort to rebrand the Gulf of Mexico into the "Gulf of America."

This entire story is a transparent attempt by Trump to distract from his failed Iran War and our teetering economy. He can't pass any legislation because he's too lazy to design any, so he's taken to scrawling on maps with a Sharpie.

Carney is right that Canadians will just continue to call it Lake Ontario, but so will most Americans. Only the most diehard MAGA cultists are on board with this asinine idea and Trump has no control over our words. When the next Democratic President is sworn in, they can undo this farce with the stroke of a pen.

Macron is speaking in a way no European leader has since World War II. No euphemisms, no illusions, no hope in Washington. "Peace cannot be Ukraine's capitulation" — these words from Macron are a final nail in the coffin for those who dream of making deals with the Kremlin. The Minsk Agreements proved: Russia cannot be trusted. The only argument Moscow understands is strength. And France is ready to show it.

Next week, Paris will gather military leaders from countries ready to guarantee peace in Ukraine — not with papers and negotiations, but with actual forces on the ground. Europe is no longer toothless.

Regarding Trump's little Lake ONTARIO stunt today:

A U.S. president can change a geographic name for official U.S. federal government use, but CANNOT globally or legally rename a shared bi-national body of water like the Great Lakes.

An executive order can direct U.S. federal agencies and update official U.S. databases (such as federal maps and documents) to use a preferred name.

NO International Power:

This order holds NO legal authority outside the United States. It cannot force Canada, international bodies, global mapmakers, or other nations to recognize the new name.

Shared Waters:

Four of the five Great Lakes sit along the U.S.–Canada border and are jointly managed through treaties and agreements. Unilateral action by one country changes nothing regarding ownership, borders, or the name used by the neighbouring nation.

In conclusion......this bloated, orange fool is wasting everyone's time.

The renaming has gone over like a lead balloon with average Americans who are struggling to afford groceries, gas, and rent due to Trump's disastrous Iran War. Everyone outside of the MAGA cult sees this as a transparent attempt to distract from myriad failures. It's akin to jangling keys in front of a cat.
