After taking over for Tom Osborne at the University of Nebraska in 1998, Frank Solich was hired as Head Football Coach.
Frank was fired after the 2003 season because 'he could not win the big games, despite his winning percentage of .753.
Nebraska then went into a tailspin, going thru Coachs Bill Callahan (.551), Bo Pellini (.713), and Mike Riley (.500), before hiring home state legend, starting QB on Nebraska's last National Championship team and then-Head Coach at UCF - coming off an undefeated season - Scott Frost.
After four seasons, with a winning percentage of .340, Frost was relieved of his duties as Head Coach, and was replaced with MATT RHULE.

Matt is a Penn State grad - just like Scott Frost was at NU - and Rhule was also coming off a $40 million dollar buyout as a result of being fired by the NFL's Carolina Panthers. Matt subsequently was hired by Nebraska, signing a $74 million dollar contract.

Now, Matt has said he loves it at Nebraska - but doesn't EVERY coach say that about their current gig? Nick Saban said that when he was the HC of the Miami Dolphins - said he had no desire to leave, and just two days later he resigned and was gone to Alabama. (or was it the very next day?)

I would not be shocked to see Rhule leave for Penn State, but if I was him - if you were him - knowing what you have in the bank, and knowing what the boosters are expecting at Penn State, would YOU quit NU and go to Penn State?

Perennial Top-10 team Head Coaching jobs don't come open very often, and Nebraska is not today and never will be a perennial top-10 team (no matter what people think), the question is, is leaving NU for PSU worth the headaches that we KNOW will come with the Penn State job?

Rhule may not leave for Penn State 'today', but I think the next time that job opens - in 3-4-5 years - he will then go.

(And I would not bet on him staying here 'today', either)

@AlbertBreer I enjoyed it too, but a couple of the TV Analysts were kinda bad, full of themselves, I didn't care for them.
Thierry Henry, Zlatan Ibrahimović and even Landon Donovan were just not very good, I grew tired of them pretty quickly, especially Henry.

But Danny - here's the issue, the error you are ignoring: Each country in the World Cup has the best of the best from that country playing for them.

NOW, do you REALLY THINK the college football teams rated 13th to 24th have a REAL shot at the Top 4 or 5 teams? NO. Hell, teams 8th-12th don't have a shot, if you want to be honest about it.

The NEXT thing is, and I've said this before (but you don't 'follow' me) - if you are a SERIOUS NFL draft prospect and you are on a team that has no chance, are you going to play in a meaningless game and risk your draft prospects by getting hurt?

I guarantee you 75% or more that are in that scenario WILL NOT PLAY - and their Coaches and teammates would agree with them (not to play).

@dpshow @ProFootballTalk I told everyone a month ago NOTHING will happen until the next CBA - it's the main bargaining chip the owners have. Add an 18th game, you get grass. BANK on it.
