Bestselling Japanese feel good meets classic whodunnit? Here is just the thing!
MY GRANDFATHER, THE MASTER DETECTIVE by Masateru Konishi (@panmacmillan, tr. @quietmoonwave17) is now out in the UK - look out for the lovely cover in bookstores!
'A classic slow burn, First Love brings the lives of both killer and psychologist into gradual, devastating focus'
Thanks to Brian Bergstrom for his pick of FIRST LOVE by Rio Shimamoto (@honfordstar, tr.@quietmoonwave17) for @parisreview's Best Books of 2024! 🌠
@skominers@DragicMarkovic I’d read The Honjin Murders before The Inugami Curse as it’s the first Detective Kindaichi Kosuke book in the series. And Death on Gokumon Island the second. The Inugami Curse is brilliant but the sixth written. There are occasional references to earlier books. But all excellent.

Received my translator’s copies today. Point Zero by Seicho Matsumoto. Published in Japan in 1959. Shows the impact of the post-war occupation of Japan, particularly on women’s lives. A murder mystery where the sleuth is also a woman - in search of her vanished husband.

@japanonmymind Thank you, Lucy. I love it too. And it really makes me think of one particular scene in the book. A really good choice by @bitterlemonpub

Irritated with X right now. Yesterday as I was typing I was offered an o with macron for the long o of Seicho Matsumoto. I selected it but on posting, X decided to edit it to an i. Didn’t notice until today and had to redo post. Why offer something your site doesn’t support…?
