Off-grid #permaculture project in Central Portugal's mountains: education/demonstration site for many aspects of regenerative growing and sustainable living.
And we think blasting mountains for limestone and iron , mining rivers for sand , to create heat emitting concrete structures is a smarter technology than the thousands of ways indigenous cultures evolved technologies over thousands of years to adapt to their ecological space
@Dineen20Dineen Still do. In constant use. It's my bread-making bowl. My original treasured one which I'd had since the 1970s broke some years back and I couldn't find another with a flattened section to sit it at an angle for hand-beating, so my current one is just like the one you posted.
Our 2022 Summer course programme is ready and live! And it's our busiest yet. I'm so looking forward to welcoming another amazing group of people to the quinta this year. Have a look at what we've got organised ...

@trevor_batt Yeah but ... no but ... yeah but ... who will replace him?! Every possible option is about 10x worse. And that’s saying something ... Is he even making the decisions? In which case this is nothing but theatre and any change will just be window-dressing.
This first hints of Autumn are in the air. And now begins a superabundance of fruit and vegetables to harvest and preserve. Some though … they never quite make it to the preservation stage …
The new “chill ’n grill” area gets a roof just in time before rain tomorrow. This was all constructed through two successive one-week Post-PDC Practical courses this summer. Yes, people with little experience of construction are capable of doing awesome, solid and beautiful work!
A week until our first Permaculture Design Certificate this year, and we're flat out building new worm toilets. Thanks to a couple of late cancellations, we also have spaces on the course. Come and join us! Learn about ecological sanitation ... and natural building. #Permaculture
Bamboo floor for a new shower. I changed my thinking on this and I like the result. The water drains straight through into a mulch pit beneath and the floor is built for easy renewal if the bamboo doesn't hold up to the repeated wet-dry cycling. #Permaculture#NaturalBuilding
A view of the main building through the cherry tree. Just 5 places left on our courses this year - 2 for July and 3 for August - so come and learn how to save the Earth and avert climate disruption by working with nature, not against it. #Permaculture
White mulberries (Morus alba). I’ve been waiting some years for this tree to produce fruit and now it finally has. The mulberries are white at the moment, but will go dark purple when fully ripe. They are super sweet even at this stage. #permaculture#foodforest#growyourown
Just as I was about to post that we had some spaces open up on our fully-booked July PDC, they filled up again! Only 3 spaces left for August. Catch us while you can to learn about the roots of our global emergency and how you can make a real difference.

Japanese dogwood (Cornus kousa) flowering for the first time. Looking forward to trying the fruits. An easy to cultivate small tree or shrub with a long history of use. It's rewarding to revive these old varieties.
