A FlyDubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv was carrying around 180 people, almost all of whom were Israelis.

The pilot, who was from Oman, shouted a religious slogan and stabbed the co-pilot, Smit Machchhar from India, in an attempt to hijack the plane and carry out a 9/11-style suicide mission. However, the Indian co-pilot and first officer fought back despite bleeding profusely and managed to open the cockpit door as the plane spun and nosedived several hundred feet.

As Smit became unconscious and the Omani pilot stabilized the plane, passengers entered the cockpit through the open door and neutralized the attacker captain. Two passengers who happened to be pilots landed the plane safely in Saudi Arabia. Smit Machchhar is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care.

न दिन देखती थी और न रात।

पायल बेन का एक्स अकाउंट कई चैनलों के इनपुट पर नोटिफिकेशन ऑन पर रहता था ताकि ब्रेकिंग न्यूज़ पकड़ सकें।

मैं मजाक में उन्हें ‘पायल ब्रेकिंग न्यूज़ मेहता’ कहा करता था।

कुछ दिनों पहले ही कोलकाता में उनके पिताजी का निधन हो गया था।

अभी वे इस सदमे से उबर ही रही थीं कि अचानक उनके जाने की ही खबर आई।

शुक्रवार रात ही फ़ोन पर बात हुई थी।

उन्होंने कहा था कि वे छुट्टी पर मुंबई जा रही हैं और 22 को वापस लौटेंगी।

लेकिन नियति को शायद कुछ और ही मंज़ूर था।

आप हमेशा याद आओगी पायल बेन।

संसद भवन, बीजेपी ऑफिस, विमन प्रेस क्लब और लटयिन दिल्ली में आपके मिले साथ की कमी कभी पूरी नहीं हो सकेगी।

Don’t know who the comic is, but he was definitely gross and unfunny. The hardest thing about political satire is the difference between sharp & cruel. This was not sharp, it was cruel, the timing was off, it landed badly even with Congress supporters. When your star campaigner is going to share stage with a performer you should have checked his jokes and done a dummy run in front of mixed audiences. Now the fallout is shared by your leader. The opposition had enough jokes to crack on Dr MMS silences or Mr ABV’s pauses or Deve Gowda’s napping or Rajiv Gandhi’s fumbles but the then top opposition leaders never indulged in it. They instinctively knew. They didn’t have MBA analysts with laptops egging them on. The office of the PM is respected & you might make fun of the person in private but on public platforms the language is formal, the criticism needs to be satirical and indirect. The Jantar Mantar event seems to have misled many people to believe that India’s public language has changed across the country. It might have to some extent, granted. But they don’t want you to adopt it. From you they expect decorum. That is why you are leaders, we/they are masses.
