TWO THINGS HAPPEN WHEN THE BEST LEADERS WALK INTO A ROOM:
1. The people who work for them straighten up a little bit, making sure that everything is perfect.
2. They smile.
It’s easier to learn the right way to do things at the highest level than it is to break bad habits. You can always take things down a notch later, but it’s harder to go the other way.
Here’s an idea: (1) Hire great people. (2) Treat them well. (3) Invest deeply in their personal and professional growth.
They will take care of things for you.
“… as is often the case with faith, I thought I was being asked a favor, when in fact I was being given one.”
- Mitch Albom
have a little faith
Sometimes you think somebody is asking you to do a favor… Often times they are really doing you the favor…
Whether you are motivated by a fear of failure or a will to win - the key is to make sure the motivation is getting you closer to improvement and not further away from it. Sometimes it can get you further away from improvement - sometimes it can get you closer. Maintain balance.
COACHES: Don’t teach with a speech. Teach with the tape. Practice time is too valuable for you to go on a three-minute Shakespearean soliloquy about basketball theory. Players will learn it better when they see it back on film.
