@GaytonMcK The only thing about #Orania to fascinate all of us is how come they excell with no government assistance and we have so, so many failing municipalities and dilapidated infrastructure despite government's billions being pored in?
During the early eighties my Welkom parents took a young pupil under their wing. He had been arrested by the Apartheid police and held in solitary confinement for more than a year.
His detention had a devastating psychological impact on him. My parents had a dilemma. The only psychologists in Welkom were white and most were conservative Afrikaners.
They were able to persuade a somewhat reluctant Afrikaner psychologist to provide therapy for him. What happened next is worthy of comment.
After many sessions with the young man recovered from the trauma of solitary confinement.
The psychologist told my parents that he was the first patient that wrote him a beautiful letter to thank him for the therapy.
With tears in his eyes he told them that his life was changed more than that of his patient.

Don’t drive with your window open, hide your phone while you drive, don’t walk outside at night or alone during the day, hang onto your handbag and children while you shop, look around for hijackers you when you stop at a red light or park at a mall or enter your driveway, don’t let your children play outside, keep your doors and gates locked 24/7, check the locks and set the alarms before you go out/to bed, keep your panic button with you at all times, don’t go to the CBD, don’t go hiking, don’t drive at night, watch out for rocks being thrown off bridges, don’t stop if your tyre bursts and don’t wear jewellery or carry cash/valuables in public.
But happy Freedom Day, South Africa 🇿🇦
@RomanCabanac Hope you could see Hopetown before you called at Orania. They like any typical small dorpie in South Africa. Now ask yourself this question: why is Orania flourishing with not receiving a single cent from government while Hopetown goes to the dogs despite governments millions?
The suggestion that any job is “low skill” is a myth perpetuated by wealthy interests to justify inhumane working conditions, little/no healthcare, and low wages.
Plus being a waitress has made me and many others *better* at our jobs than those who’ve never known that life.
@Newzroom405 This Tweet contains a misquote that significantly alters the meaning of the message. Needs to be corrected. As it stands now the Tweet is irresponsible and smacks of Strat Com tactics which I hope it's not. We deserve better from journalists, man!
@wedeservebeta19 @nickhedley Skin color matters a lot to the powerless and the destitute and they make up more than half of the citizens of South Africa. Those still believe white people brought them misery and now with their box full of white chalk @Our_DA wants them to believe differently? @jsteenhuisen
@GhalebCachalia@nickhedley Tell that to the almost 50% unemployed and watch if they clap hands in the believe that @Our_DA is the real way to go for a better life they so deserve. There is democracy and there is pragmatism. South Africa needs both to believe and prosper. @jsteenhuisen@mphophalatse1
@nickhedley One from 10 national leaders is black. Moerse! This is to cry about as SouthAfrica desperately needs a better government. The DA will not see their wishes come true with a box full of lilly white chalk. And the country will limp on for worse. @Our_DA@jsteenhuisen@mphophalatse1
@Our_DA The @Our_DA will pay dearly in 2024forthe lack of pragmatism and liberalist selfishness. And in all of this they hopefully will realize the disservice they did to South Africa. Will be too late by then... 👍@jsteenhuisen@mphophalatse1
@DonaldDavhie ... but Phalatse will be the game changer, not for the DA only but for South Africa as a whole. Sad that the DA will be blind to that. And so we suffer on and on and on because of political selfishness and shortsightedness. @helenzille@jsteenhuisen@mphophalatse1
@JacquesMaree73 He may add value through shining light into restless corners. Me thinks as a young voice he will draw good viewer numbers. He is no fool... but for the moments he dons the red overall and beret.
I don't understand the thinking that some South Africans are natives and some are not. Toxic and divisive! We are all natives in this country. Let's work together to build stronger markets and stronger law & order, hold our leaders accountable.
