Donald Trump said, ‘Maybe we’d like a dictator.’ And I’m here to tell you right now, NO, the fuck we don’t. This country was built on tearing down tyrants, not worshiping them. We fought a revolution to get rid of a king. We wrote a Constitution to make damn sure no one man could ever crown himself king again. That’s not negotiable. That’s the bedrock.

George Washington could’ve kept power forever, but he didn’t. He walked away because he knew America was bigger than him. Lincoln, in the middle of a civil war, still ran elections. He didn’t cancel democracy; he defended it when it was hanging by a thread. FDR faced down Hitler and Mussolini, fascists with armies, without ever becoming one himself. That’s America’s record. That’s the line we’ve always held.

And now along comes Trump, the only president in our history reckless enough, arrogant enough, and dangerous enough to actually say out loud what no president should even think. ‘Maybe we’d like a dictator.’ He’s not joking. He’s testing. That’s what authoritarians do: they throw out the idea, they dress it up as a quip, they see if people laugh, or shrug, or nod along. Every time we don’t push back, they push further. Every time we treat it like “just Trump being Trump,” the ground shifts a little closer to tyranny.

So I’m not going to shrug. I’m not going to laugh it off. And I’m sure as hell not going to let it slide. Because when someone floats the word ‘dictator’ from behind the Resolute Desk, that’s not a slip — that’s a red flag. That’s a road map. And we’ve seen where that road leads, all through history. It leads to silenced voices. It leads to crushed freedoms. It leads to families shattered, lives destroyed, generations living in fear. Dictators don’t save nations; they strangle them.

America doesn’t want a dictator. America doesn’t need a dictator. And let me promise you this: as long as I’m breathing, I will fight with everything I have to make sure this country never bows to one. If I win a seat in Congress, I’ll fight from that chamber. If I don’t, I’ll fight from the streets, from the town halls, from every microphone I can get in front of. Because this isn’t about me, and it isn’t about politics, this is about America itself.

Donald Trump doesn’t understand this country. He doesn’t respect it. He doesn’t love it the way he claims. Because if he did, the word ‘dictator’ would never leave his lips. He wants power for himself, not freedom for the people. And that makes him the most dangerous kind of man, not a leader, but a wannabe tyrant.

So here’s my message to Trump and to anyone else who thinks America should flirt with dictatorship: not now, not ever. Not in this country. Not on our watch. The revolution already answered that question in 1776, and the answer was final. We are free people, and we are going to stay that way.
