— over 39,000 Afghans have been resettled in the UK and thousands more are still to arrive
— initial expectations was around 4,000 would be resettled
— Afghan resettlement is set to cost £5.7 billion once round down in 2032/33
— nearly all local authorities have taken resettled Afghans, as they receive generous payments (over £24k per person)
— costs around £120,000 per resettled Afghan and lifetime cost likely to be much higher given low rates of employment
— Afghan population has likely doubled since the 2021 census, due to resettlement, illegal boat crossings and visa issuance
— so large is the demographic impact, births to Afghan mothers & fathers grew at the fastest rate between 2024 and 2025
