A small piece I wrote for https://t.co/ixu3gygCr4 on BICs of gravitational waves: Bound gravitational waves inspired by photonic systems https://t.co/gcBeNt4JKI via @physorg_com
New paper out in IOP's Physica Scripta! 🥳
BICs exist for quantum, sound, elastic, hydrodynamic and optical waves. Why should gravitational waves (GW) be left out of the party?
https://t.co/ESPfK4VRZV
Here, two localized perturbations of flat spacetime (one for each GW polarization) lead to distributional sources at the localization plane and to regular vacuum solutions outside of it.
If there are GW quasi-BICs, maybe they can be as useful as the photonic ones!
Our tailored ultrafast resonances in an unpatterned Si thin film is finally out in @LightSciAppl ! 💡🔦⚖️🪞
Think of a visible-to-mid IR resonance... it is there.
Kudos to all authors: Thomas Possmayer, @AndreasTittl, Leo Menezes and Stefan Maier!
Feeling static during the summer months? We show how you can dynamically control resonances on millisecond timescales by combining permittivity-asymmetric BIC metasurfaces and electrochromic polymers. Out now in Nature Communications: https://t.co/iRvZZ9dTQ5
Waiting 4 months for a superficial and unsubstantiated peer-review rejection (reviewer #2, ofc...) should not be normal. Reviewer #1 really liked the paper.
💫 Passionate about spectroscopy and nanophotonics?
We have a Postdoc position at our Chair in Hybrid Nanosystems @LMU_Muenchen to start asap!
Details below and DM if you want more info! RT also appreciated :)
How I fell out of love with academia
(this video was an accidental publication/scheduling blunder😬😬 but well uh, happy Friday I guess)

🙌😉Today in @NaturePhotonics we show a SiC membrane platform with controllable orbital-angular-momentum (OAM) of surface phonon polaritons at mid-infrared frequencies 💡⭕️🎯 Beautiful work by Andrea Mancini & Lin + @r_berte, Stefan, @Hren2016. Check here: https://t.co/GrSXbrwz68
What note would an infinite string sound? What "color" would an infinite mirror cavity have? Any you want, but how to select it? In our preprint we show how to excite tailored resonances in a plain thin film using light to break its permittivity symmetry🔦

So we don't necessarily need to pattern samples through etching/deposition steps to have tailored resonances. Nothing more than a thin film gives us very interesting optical functionalities!
