Was really pleased to finally make this one happen. It's been in the works for a bit but kept getting postponed. In this one @LeafcutterJohn talk about making your own instrument and how to navigate it in a performance (as well as talking about how the paint dries...).
Have created a #Mastodon account. (@[email protected]). The December 'play talk play' video will be the last video we'll be posting to Twitter. If you want to be up to date with the videos follow there or directly on Youtube (https://t.co/sJdV8MIrji).
Finally finished up the hardware. Decided to abandon the LED strip, and tightened up dimensions overall. Code still needs a bit of tweaking to fully linearize the output of the hall sensor-based fader, but pretty happy with it!
After putting it off for *ages*, I'm finally getting around to revamping my fader. This time using a much nicer mechanical/contactless fader as the core, adding in a @BelaPlatform Trill and an analog joystick to round off the selection of R.H. delights.
This is one of the first of the series I wanted to film a few years ago, but many hasty international moves prevented that. Really glad we finally managed to make the time to film one as we get into some thoughtful territory very quickly.
@HbledsoeFlute Look the variety of samples in the corpus. The mixed between the pitched/piano-esque sounds and the smashing glass is quite striking, underneath the flute stuff.
Here's SP-Tools v0.7 Quite a few new features including ramps, data processing, novelty slicing, and timestretching. Bunch of bugfixes and other bits behind the scenes too. https://t.co/yduTTCC4Uq
Was great chatting to Henrik about his @BelaPlatform-based Crescente instrument. I also got to debut the work I've been doing with the @embodme's Erae Touch, with the bits I've built for it using SP-Tools.
@agustinissidoro@flucoma@Ableton I may revisit the approach, but fundamentally the nearest neighbor matching works differently in @flucoma and I had a hard time getting as good results as I was getting with entrymatcher (for concat synthesis specifically).
Biggest single update to SP-Tools so far. Here is v0.6 which includes a total of 16(!) #MaxforLive devices letting you do a bunch of the fancy @flucoma machine learning stuff directly in @Ableton. Detailed walkthrough and overview. https://t.co/R135DeBE0K
@agustinissidoro@flucoma@Ableton Not really. Well, it is possible (technically) but in my testing neither of those sounded good. The way I've implemented concat synthesis in SP-Tools isn't super robust (it's basically a bonus feature) so it's not intended to be as fully featured as other solutions (C-C-Combine).
@RaoulvanHerpen Just filmed next month's 'play talk play' with it yesterda, so that will be out in a few weeks. The color thing is the @embodme Erae Touch controller, with some custom Max stuff behind it.
Here is SP-Tools v0.5. This update adds support for grid-based corpus browsing, support for the @embodme Erae Touch, and some @Ableton/@cycling64 Max for Live devices that will let you leverage some of the core functionality of SP Tools in a Live workflow. https://t.co/7HsUeRr631
Properly incorporated this into SP-Tools v0.5 with a snazzy UI, as well as being able to define multiple zones, mess with color maps, etc... https://t.co/7HsUeRr631
Got my @embodme Erae Touch yesterday and after wrestling with the API spec managed to get some very promising results with descriptor analysis, dimensionality reduction, and corpus-based sample navigation (using @flucoma). https://t.co/OOyvqBO3DV
karma~ 1.6 is now live in the @cycling74 Package Manager. It adds M1/UB support (as well as Windows still) and is largely modernized with mc.karma~, proper reference/documentation, and a small handful of new features.
