Assigning values to columns looks and feels different in {data.table} compared to base R data frames.
Why, and how does this make {data.table} so much faster? π€

@matloff@TimTeaFan One of the things that is most exciting to me about what we're doing for this grant is the chance to strengthen (and where needed, repair) some of the connections with other R sub-communities. π₯°
@TimTeaFan@matloff This idea of rejecting non-tidy tools because of a fear of "disloyalty" is, IMO, not founded. I don't know a single tidyverse fan who avoids non-tidy-tools when they are needed, and everyone I know speaks highly of data.table in particular. π
@TimTeaFan@matloff I disagree with Norm that there is anti-data-table sentiment among tidyverse users. There is probably anti-correlation, in that many tidy users have simpler needs than data.table addresses.
π’ It has been some time since #RStats {data.table} last major update in Feb 2021, but now it strikes back!
π There are 41 new features in this release (v1.15).
π Below are the five features that Iβm most excited about - the last one will blow your mindβ’!
πββοΈ Letsβ go.
When prompting the image with βdata table strikes backβ it was actually quite hard to remove all kind of star destroyers, small space ships and other people wielding lightsabers from the background. Finally worked when prompting a βdeserted ice landscapeβ. This did the trick.
We have our first new data.table feature release in years! πππ
